(March 2007)

Ricoh has announced the Caplio R6 which is
the world’s thinnest digital camera with 28mm Wide-Angle and
7.1x Optical Zoom.
Developed from the design of the excellent Caplio R5, the new
camera measures just 20.6mm thick, although this is measured at
its thinnest point, so the maximum thickness will be a few
millimeters thicker.
The new skinnier profile has been achieved by re-designing the
versatile 28-200mm equivalent lens using a double-retracting
mechanism and highly refractive glass optimizing the
distribution of thickness in the lens assembly.
Like the R5 it features a 7.24 megapixel CCD with Ricoh’s own
moving-sensor anti-shake mechanism with an improved algorithm,
and now also incorporates that latest must-have gizmo, face
detection technology.
Other unique new features include a dual size recording mode
which allows you to record two files at the same time, one
normal sized image as well as a reduced size image of either 1
megapixel, VGA, HVGA, or QVGA size. It also has more than double
the internal memory of the R5 (54MB rather than 26MB), and a
larger LCD monitor (2.7in rather than 2.5in). 16x playback zoom,
highlight warning and an improved high-ISO auto-sensitivity
feature will also help produce sharper, better-exposed pictures.
Available in silver, black or red, the R6 will be in the shops
from the middle of March, with a recommended retail price of
£229.99 including VAT.
