Lenovo IdeaPad Y710

The 17-inch Lenovo IdeaPad Y710 notebook, which is a part of the company’s new IdeaPad consumer laptop family, is now available in the United States.

The Y710 is based on Intel’s 45-nanometer Core 2 Duo processing technology codenamed "Penryn" and comes with up to Core 2 Duo T9300 CPU at 2.5GHz. The Lenovo IdeaPad Y710 features the ATI Mobility Radeon HD2600 256MB video card, up to 500GB 5400rpm of hard drive storage with a secondary HDD, 2GB of system memory expandable to 4GB, and a DVD burner or a Blu-Ray optical drive. The notebook’s 17? display has a 1440 x 900 resolution.

The laptop incorporates the Dolby Home Theater sound system with four speakers and a sub-woofer, as well as a built-in 1.3 megapixel web camera which provides a face recognition functionality when used with a special software called VeriFace.

Regarding communications, there are the Intel PRO/Wireless 4965AGN Wi-Fi module, an Ethernet LAN port, and a 56K modem.

The Y710 has four USB ports, an ExpressCard slot, a FireWire port, HDMI, VGA, and S-Video outputs, and a 6-in-1 media card reader.

Design features of this notebook include a frameless screen panel, the Light Weave Texture, touch-sensitive multimedia controls, and a full size keyboard with a numeric pad. In addition, the hinge and logo areas are illuminated by colorful halo lighting.

This system weighs 7.9 pounds and provides approximately four hours of battery life with a standard 6-cell battery.

The Lenovo IdeaPad Y710 is expected to become available soon through the U.S. retailers for a starting price of $1,199.
