» Maxian M800
(September 2006)

We've discussed this thingy briefly a
couple of weeks ago - yet it seems as if Maxian is getting ready to release
their M800 anytime soon now. Consequently, some additional details have
crept through the woodworks.
It has a 4.3-inch WQVGA screen (made by Sharp, 480 x 272 pixels), measures
17mm in terms of thickness (Archos territory), does support video recording
and then there's the usual stuff like tv-out, audio recording & USB2.0
compatibility. The Korean version of AVing's news update on the M800 lists "AVI,
MPEG, MPG, ASF, WMV, DAT and VOB" as supported file formats - not sure if
that's "native support" or that transcoding is required on some occasions.
MSRP is said to be 400k Won (325 Euro, 415 bucks) for a 30GB M800, either in
the "white" or "black" flavor of your choice. Burr Brown took care of the
audio department for this particular player, so it should sound just fine.
Another interesting fact is that this device will actually be simultaneously released in Korea, Europe, China and Hong
Kong... , where's North-America in that list?
